Other Ways to Help

GIFT AID

Gift Aid allows the Dyslexia Research Trust to claim tax back from the Government on all donations received as a UK tax payer. As a basic rate tax payer this means we will receive an extra 25 pence from the Inland Revenue for every £1 you donate. A £100 donation with gift aid is therefore worth £125.

If you pay tax at a higher rate of income tax (40%) you can also claim relief for yourself at 18% of your gross donation, or 23p for every £1 you give through gift aid.

For further information about Gift Aid tax relief, please ask your local tax office for leaflet IR65 Gift Aid or visit www.hmrc.gov.uk

GIFT OF SHARES

A gift of shares is a simple, tax effective way to support the Dyslexia Research Trust. Giving your shares to charity is a way of donating assets which offers tax relief to you in addition to the capital gains tax relief. A gift of shares worth £1,000 could reduce a basic rate donor's income tax bill by £220, or by £400 if a higher rate taxpayer.

This effectively means that as a basic rate tax payer the donation has cost you only £780 and as a higher rate tax payer the donation has cost you £600. Since 1st April 2000 Companies can get corporation tax relief for gifts to charity of listed shares, unit trusts and investment trusts.

Please note: Dyslexia Research Trust cannot give you financial advice about your personal circumstances or tax position – you may wish to discuss the tax consequences of any donation of shares with your financial adviser

PAYROLL GIVING

Payroll giving is a tax-effective way for you to give to the Dyslexia Research Trust straight from your salary. This is a scheme which enables employees to donate to charity straight through their salary before tax is deducted and to receive immediate tax relief.

This means that if an employee gives £10 a month, it will cost only £7.50 if you pay tax at 25%, or only £6 if you pay tax at 40%. Payroll giving or Give As You Earn provides us with a regular, reliable income stream and provides you with immediate tax relief. It is a simple, hassle free way to give and donors can support many charities from just one form.

LEGACIES

Leaving bequests to the Dyslexia Research Trust both large and small can make a significant difference to our work. Changing a Will is not difficult. However, it must be legally valid and we would strongly recommend you seek professional advice from a solicitor.

If you only want to make a small change to a will a document called a codicil can supplement your existing will..
